In the article "Negligent Homicide" author Matt Richtel talks about, a man named Reggie Shaw. How Shaw was texting his girlfriend when he clipped a Saturn resulting in the death of James Furaro and Keith O'Dell. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail and 200 hours of commuity service.
I think his sentence wasn't hard enough. Shaw had killed two men. Those two men are never going to get their lives back, but Shaw can do his time and commuity service, read and move on with his life.
I do not think he should of pleaded guilty of two counts of negligent homicide, a misdemeanor. I think he should of pleaded or charged count to two counts of involutary mansloutered and recived 2 years in with 200 hours of community service. The 200 hours of commuity service was good. Plus 11 hours (211) for how many texts were sent betweeb Shaw and his girlfriend.
Now in Utah (were Reggie case was at) a driver caught texting and driving faces up to 3 months in jail and a fine up to $750 an a misdemeanor. If they cause injury or death, the crime can grow up to a $10,000 fine and 15 years in prison. I personal think they should only be sentcened to 7 years (max and $1,000 fine (max), plus community service but the community service should be how many text you had sent multiply by how many people died or got injuried.
Honestly people should not text and drive. You need to put down the phone because the text can wait; killing someone though, isn't worth it. It isn't worth checking your phone getting into a crush, causing a injury or death, going to prison, and be fined. So we need to learn the text can wait.
